Environmental due diligence assessments

What it's about (Objective)

  • Undertaking an external environmental due diligence audit to assess the effectiveness of processes that manage environmental compliance and identify potential liabilities or gaps in these processes
  • An assessment of compliance of site operations with the requirements of the client's corporate Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Implementing a process that provides a concise overview of the management of environmental compliance with internal and external obligations

What we can do (Scope)

  • An assessment of the client's environmental compliance management across its areas of operation including a review of processes, systems, and records that manage compliance with:
    • corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) obligations
    • relevant environmental legislation
    • the results of the internal audits undertaken by each area of operation
    • environmental licences or other statutory obligations (eg ministerial conditions, environmental protection policies, regulatory actions, directions and orders etc)
    • Non-statutory obligations and commitments (eg. Code of Environmental Management)
    • Corporate obligations through state and federal policies (eg. Sustainability strategy, greenhouse gas strategy)
  • Develop a high level environmental due diligence audit checklist
  • Verification through desktop assessment of records in combination with interviews with the key contacts
  • One to two site visits for field verification (sites to be determined in consultation with client)

What the client gets (Deliverables)

  • A written environmental due diligence report summarising the findings of the assessment of environmental compliance management across the organisation

What it's about (Objective/Purpose)

  • Assisting the client effectively implement a management system for their operations
  • Advising the client on how to improve its existing management system to conform to the relevant AS/ISO standard and to implement an improvement program to ensure the client's management system is suitable for the certification process
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations – to carry out an assessment of the client's management systems and to assist the client to meet standards required by the regulations
  • Providing a focused action plan to improve management and the effectiveness of training
  • Provision of management system support:
    • Consulting and facilitation roles for the development, implementation, and integration of quality, OHS, security, and environmental management systems
    • Second and third party auditing of management systems
    • RABQSA-registered Lead and Internal Auditor training
    • Placement of short term professionals to assist with management system development and implementation projects

  • Initial system review and gap analysis
  • Training needs analysis
  • Develop and finalise a recommended action plan (Improvement Program)
  • Implement task identified according to the Program
  • Document development (manuals, procedures, handbooks)

  • Provide support services on an as-needs basis and ensure a continuity of personnel to ensure maximum efficiency is provided

  • Providing general environmental advisor support to clients' projects
  • Providing environmental management services
  • Undertaking environmental baseline studies to obtain a better understanding of the current environmental status associated with the client's operations prior to the commencement of a significant project

What we can do (Scope/Methodology)

Environmental support

  • Prepare EIS commitments register, develop actions and transfer them into a project action tracking system
  • Follow up on client environment-related actions
  • Prepare environment plans
  • Implement environment plans
  • Provide input into project Environmental Management Plans
  • Prepare environmental monitoring plans
  • Provide input into environmental audits and reviews
  • Provide input into the process of ensuring environmental considerations are inherent in the project design

Environmental management services

  • Investigation – comprehensive site assessment; remedial investigation/feasibility studies; hydrogeological studies; soil, water, and air sampling and testing; environmental site assessments; and, wetlands studies
  • Remediation – groundwater treatment systems; and, soil treatment systems
  • Design – treatability studies; corrective action and remediation plans; groundwater modelling; bio-restoration modelling; landfill closure; and, wetlands studies
  • Environmental management – facility compliance audits; treatment storage and disposal evaluation; environmental protection plans; and, waste management/minimization studies

Environmental baseline studies

  • Provide the supporting services in managing the study by working closely with the client's management. This includes planning of the study, facilitation of the monitoring programs, coordination with the relevant monitoring service providers and the client's personnel, and reporting on the study progress and outcomes to the client's management. Field trips will be involved.

What the client gets (Deliverables)

  • A final environmental baseline report detailing the study outcomes and providing recommendations on further environmental and social monitoring
