Over the last two years, Sustainability has had the pleasure of supporting PanAust Mining in developing and improving HSE Competency for both locals and expats across two sites in Laos. To build up this expertise, Sustainability initially trained the local HSE workforce to increase safety capability and at the same time provided a recognised qualification; Certificate IV training in Workplace Health and Safety.

Further embedding self-reliance and autonomy, Sustainability later returned to carry out Auditor training. This provided the workforce with a set of tools which enabled them to identify the suitability and effectiveness of systems and implement ongoing continuous improvement practices.

On the most recent trip, a small group of expats were supported through the preparation for the NEBOSH examination. NEBOSH is a globally recognised HSE accreditation in the resources industry.

Overall, the impact of this ongoing support has been to increase the national skill level and awareness in HSE both in the field and professionally.

PanAust’s activities in Laos are centered on the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation. Here, the Company aims to ensure that its presence has an overall positive impact on communities.
