Sustainability welcomes the appointment of Heath Thorpe as Director Environment, Health and Safety (EHS).

Based in Brisbane, Heath will oversee the Environment team and international projects, including EHS support for the Rio Tinto Oyu Tolgoi mine through Sustainability’s Mongolian subsidiary.

Bringing over 25 years’ experience, Heath has led the development, implementation and compliance of practical risk management standards and systems on resource projects.

Heath has worked with Sustainability previously, and returns having served most recently as Vice President HSE at Hindustan Zinc in India. Prior to joining Hindustan, Heath held various HSE leadership roles with Pan Aust. in Laos, Newcrest Lihir Gold, and Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia.

Holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Port Elizabeth and an Advanced Diploma in OH&S, Heath began his career as an environmental professional and transitioned to become a strong safety leader. His experience gained, spans the full range of sustainability challenges encompassing environmental, social responsibility and community liaison and development.
